Soul, folk, jazz, with 40s panache
Bev Lee Harling’s 2012 LP Barefoot in your Kitchen combined this gifted vocalist and multi-instrumentalist’s love of music and all things culinary to deliver a truly unique debut. Having won the heart of BBC 6Music’s Gilles Peterson, who made it his Album of the Week, Bev has found herself in much demand, taking her Kitchen Sink band across the UK and beyond, lending her vocals to the drum & bass world of Hospital Records and receiving highly acclaimed remixes from producers like Suonho and Claws For?
Mixing up elements of soul, folk, jazz, with a certain 40s panache, Bev’s music is sometimes dark, sometimes frivolous, always engaging and human spirited, her songs’ common bond being the luscious, pure vocals that thread their way through the highs and lows of life experience.
Her second album is due for release on Wah Wah 45s in early 2016.
Live Show
Bev Lee Harling’s live show embodies her love of music and cooking where the lady herself utilises chopping boards, cheese graters, glass orchestras, colanders and a dog bowl along with music boxes, a musical saw and a 1950’s typewriter to create a musical, organic experience. Backed by the Kitchen Sink Band, consisting of double bass, guitar, drums and sometimes backing vocalists, Bev’s live performances are at once energetic, unique and unforgettable.
