Fully Live, Uninterrupted Mix of Spaced-Out Future Funk
Paper Tiger began life many years ago as a teenage bedroom experiment in suburban Wolverhampton: electronically-produced music incorporating live instruments and musicians. Whilst independently releasing a number of EPs and delivering some heavyweight remixes, this exciting young outfit not only caught the ear of luminaries like Jamie XX and Lauren Laverne, but also our ears here at Wah Wah 45s.
Their emphasis on blending organic sounds with electronic production techniques resulted in a relatively unique proposition, and one that fitted perfectly with the label: music which is interesting and technically proficient, but remains vibrant, colourful and funky… captivating both in headphones and on the dancefloor.
Paper Tiger’s full-length debut, entitled Laptop Suntan, was released on Wah Wah 45s in late 2013, with a mighty fine follow up remix album, Sultan Ant Pop, dropping last year and featuring remixes from Sam Redmore and LV. More audio goodness is planned for later in 2015.
Live Show
Over the past few years, the full Paper Tiger live band has been performing to more and more to audiences across the UK and Europe. The shows are a fully live, uninterrupted mix of spaced-out future funk: no sequencers or backing tracks, just furious pushing of buttons and flailing of limbs. The band has shared some of the country’s most prestigious stages and festival bills with the likes of Hexstatic, Rustie, Nightmares On Wax, Bonobo and Amon Tobin.
Rapper and front man Raphael Attar adds his cunning , and often humorous, vocal gymnastics to the mix, perfectly complemented by live drums, bass, synth, sax, samples and Paper Tiger’s very own DJ Vital.
